Not a classic cheeseburger, but a gut-feeling kind of one.
Instead of the classic cheddar I put buffalo mozzarella on the patty. This gives the burger a truly unique flavor.
Depending on what I’m in the mood for, the burger is topped quite differently. But in any case it should not be missing lettuce, tomato and onions. There is no way around that. 😉
This cheeseburger also had guacamole, arugula, and of course ketchup and mustard. I often add a crispy slice of bacon to the burger as well. But unfortunately I had left them in the refrigerator.
And I’m honest about that. If the burger buns are already homemade, then the ketchup does not have to be homemade as well.
As just mentioned, I baked the buns myself for this burger. And I will continue to do so, as they have such a great taste. The purchased ones just don’t measure up. The recipe for my burger buns is here.
But if you want to save yourself the trouble, buy brioche burger buns. They are also very tasty.

- 1 egg, size M
- 2 tsp dijon mustard
- 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
- salt and pepper
- 1 tbsp sunflower oil, for frying
guacamole
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 clove garlic
- 3 tsp olive oil
- 2 tsp lime or lemon juice
- salt and pepper
Instructions
guacamole
Cut avocado in half and remove from skin with a spoon.
In a bowl, mash the avocado with a fork.
Squeeze garlic and add to avocado.
Add lemon or lime juice, olive oil, salt and pepper and mix everything together.
Burger topping
Wash and slice tomatoes.
Cut buffalo mozzarella into slices.
Wash and halve the arugula.
Cut the onions into fine rings.
burger patties
Mix minced meat with egg, breadcrumbs, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper with your hands and form into four patties.
You can also use a patty mold.Heat sunflower oil in a frying pan.
Fry burger patties in a fry pan over medium-high heat for about 4 – 5 minutes on each side. The cooking time depends on the thickness of the patties.
You can still leave the patties slightly pink inside.
Of course, you can also prepare the patties on the grill.
burger buns
Slice burger buns.
Heat a pan, add 1 tablespoon sunflower oil to the pan and place the buns cut side down in the skillet and toast over medium heat for about 2 – 3 minutes.
Last steps
Spread top and bottom of buns with mustard and ketchup.
Then put the arugula on the bottom.
Then place the patty on top of the arugula. Place the buffalo mozzarella on top of the patty.
Then put the tomatoes on top of the cheese.
Spread the guacamole on the top.
Finally, spread the onions on both sides.
Put the lid on and enjoy with your hands. 😉
Tips
You can also add the buffalo mozzarella to the patty while it’s still in the pan after you flip it over. The mozzarella will already melt a bit.
Or you can put the patties with the mozzarella in the oven for another 2 minutes. Even then, the cheese melts.
